FAQs

Are Ampure chargers UL certified?

Yes, both the Ampure Go and Ampure Go 2 chargers are UL and cUL certified. This certification ensures they comply with strict safety and quality standards in both the United States and Canada.

Are Ampure chargers universal to all BEV and PHEV vehicles?

Yes, Ampure chargers are compatible with all Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) on the road today. Our chargers work with two main types of connectors:

  • NACS (SAE J3400): The connector used by many American-made vehicles (like Tesla).
  • SAE J1772: The connector used by most other electric vehicles, including those from manufacturers like GM, Ford, and Nissan.

With over 500,000 units in use, Ampure chargers support both types to ensure they can charge virtually any EV.

Can I clean my charger with bleach ?

No, avoid harsh cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the charger.

Do Ampure’s portable chargers require an electrician for installation or setup?

Ampure Go chargers are ready to plug in and charge. For Level 1 charging, you can use a standard 120-volt outlet, which is available in most homes—no electrician is needed.

However, if you want to take advantage of faster Level 2 charging, the Ampure Go can also plug into a 240-volt outlet (like those used for washers and ovens). If your home doesn’t already have a 240-volt outlet, you’ll need a licensed electrician to install one for you.

Qmerit is Ampure's preferred EV charger installation partner. Visit https://qmerit.com/ev/ampure/ for more information.

How long will it take to charge my car? Can it charge my car overnight?

  • Level 1 Charging: It can take 24-36 hours to charge your car from 0% to 80%. This is best for light use or leaving your car plugged in for a full day or two.
  • Level 2 Charging: It can charge your car from 0% to 80% in less than 7 hours, making it perfect for overnight charging.

If you drive daily and need faster charging, Level 2 is the better option.

Is it possible to mount Ampure’s portable EV Chargers?

Yes, both the Ampure Go Gen 1 and Gen 2 chargers can be mounted.

  • Gen 1 includes a mounting bracket.
  • Gen 2 is mount-ready for easy installation

Is the Ampure portable charger for indoor and outdoor use?

Yes, the Ampure Go portable EV charger is designed for both indoor and outdoor use. It operates in extreme temperatures ranging from -22°F to 122°F. With its IP67 rating, it is fully dustproof and can withstand temporary submersion in up to 3 feet of water without damage, ensuring durability in any harsh condition.

What do the different light indicators mean?

  • Normal Operation – Blue Light: Charger is ready, or if pulsing, actively charging.
  • Warning – Amber Light: Charging is reduced due to high temperature or a recoverable issue.
  • Error – Red Light: A fault has been detected, and charging will not proceed until resolved.

For more details, refer to the Troubleshooting Guide in Section 3.

What does a normal startup look like?

When plugged in:

  1. The Amber, Blue, and Red lights blink once.
  2. The Blue light turns ON, then the Red light blinks.
  3. The Blue light turns OFF, then ON again.

What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2 Charging?

  • Level 1 Charging: Uses a standard 120-volt household outlet with a 5-15 plug. It’s slow but steady and works with most outlets already in your home.
  • Level 2 Charging: Uses a 240-volt outlet with a 14-50 plug, delivering faster charging speeds. If you do not already have a 14-50 outlet at home, we recommend hiring a licensed electrician to install one for safety and compliance.

Level 1 is great for occasional charging, while Level 2 is ideal for faster, daily charging needs.

What size breaker does a level 1 and/or level 2 charger require?

The required breaker size depends on the charger's maximum current:

  • 16Amp EV Charger requires a 20-amp breaker.
  • 32Amp EV Charger requires a 40-amp breaker.
  • 40Amp Ev Charger requires a 50-amp breaker.

Will Ampure chargers work with adapters?

Yes, our chargers come with a NACS (SAE J3400) or SAE J1772 charging coupler and adapters can be used on both.
